Let’s Talk League of Legends: Lulu, the Suppordle
Let me start this post by saying I used to MAIN support in Season 1. Slowly the support champions got nerfed down until only Soraka and Sona were viable with most lane compositions. At the end of Season 1, they made the major support nerf, thereby “neutralizing” all supports and making them all sort of meh. I was extremely upset that Riot did this but I suppose it was necessary if people like myself were able to carry teams in ranked by stupid amounts of heals (Soraka) or broken sustain/auras (Sona). My ELO at the end of Season 1 was still shit but I was able to do pretty goddamn well provided my team wasn’t full of absolute retards.
Anyway I’m not here to talk about Season 1. The legendary Support Nerf pushed other non-traditional champions to be played as support. For example, Blitzcrank, Amumu, Jarvan IV, Malphite, Leona, Maokai, etc. I think that is why Riot did this, because it opened more doors for these particular support tank champs to be played as more of a support role instead of a jungler/tank.
Since Season 2, the only support released was Karma. The way I (and most support players) see Karma is a carry with the ability to support/clutch heal. Karma’s shield made it viable also to play a melee champion bot lane (Irelia, Renekton, Jax) that would normally go top lane. However, because Karma’s damage increased the lower her health was, it was hard to not steal kills and cs with her shield nuke. Also, her range fell way shorter than most other supports.
Thus, the role of support became somewhat like a punishment. In solo queue, if you were last pick, you were essentially forced to play support. (This doesn’t really matter to me, but a lot of people who do not play support are usually irritated by this.)
Throughout all of this, all over the forums people were begging for a new support, since Riot were adamant on their nerfs to the other support champions.
Finally, Lulu was born!
I only just purchased Lulu not long ago and the three games I’ve played as her have been WAY too much fun. She’s so adorable! And her kit is absolutely amazing! A cute polymorph skill makes for disabling the CC champs, taking that out of the fight for a few seconds. Her poke with her Q is great, and her shield is even greater. HER ULTIMATE… Oh god her ultimate is SOOO CLUTCH! Some Lulu’s will use the shield at the beginning of the fight, to give a buff to the initiator. However, I use it as a saving grace, choosing to ulti the carry that’s about to die and WHAM! extra HP! And then throw all your skills on them and they get away! YAY!
With Lulu I got back the feeling I had Season 1 when I mained Soraka. I can now clutch save people with my awesome ulti (albeit not from across the map with a global heal, but still…)! Honestly, I’ve never been happier playing a support champion. It’s not because she’s new either, I played Karma right when she came out but she wasn’t as great as Soraka and Sona then either…
Lulu just gives me that feel-good feeling of feels… You know that feel bro?
